Our Commitment to Health: What You Need to Know about Indoor Classes
Updated 5/19/21
As you probably know, New York State and Tompkins County have officially adopted the CDC's new guidelines for fully vaccinated people. Under these guidelines, those who are fully vaccinated no longer need to wear masks either indoors or outdoors, and no longer need to observe social distancing practices.
While we are all excited to see things opening up, we are also aware that there are many in our dojo--all of our youngest students, as well as other students and their family members--who are not vaccinated or have continuing underlying health issues. Making the dojo a safe place for everyone will continue to be our priority.
Until vaccines are available for those under the age of 12, we will continue to operate our PeeWee and Junior classes as we have been by following the New York State guidelines for those who are not vaccinated: masks, social distance, no contact, and no sharing of equipment.
Since our Youth program includes some that are under age 12 and some that are older, we will have two options. Most of our current Youth classes will continue using the same protocols: masks, social distance, no contact, and no sharing of equipment. We will also be adding classes specifically for those Youth age 12 and older who have been fully vaccinated. These classes will not require masks or social distancing, and can include closer contact (like the practice of self defense and kumite). In order to attend the classes specifically for those who are fully vaccinated, parents will be required to fill out the Youth Vaccination Form on behalf of their child.
In our Adult program, we will continue to hold classes that will follow masking and social distancing protocols, along with classes that are specifically for fully vaccinated adults that include closer contact. Adults who are fully vaccinated should fill out the Adult Vaccination Form.
For all age groups, we will also be holding some outdoor classes as the weather improves. For outdoor classes, we will observe social distance but masks will not be required.
We appreciate everyone's support and understanding as we navigate new information and continue our journey back to the dojo. Keeping our dojo safe, welcoming, and healthy will continue to be our priority moving forward. Thank you all for being such an important part of the CLSK family. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Sincerely, Jun Shihan Robin McColley Jun Shihan Gail Lajoie

"After the encouragement of my kids and the Sensei's, I joined CLSK in my late forties. I learned that Seido is a Karate for everyone. I expected the physical conditioning and self defense, but what I continue to gain is so much more. Seido is a community, friendship, and spirit that has improved and enriched many aspects of my life."
