Children's Programs at Cayuga Lake Seido Karate, Lansing, NY
For PeeWees
Why Seido Karate for PeeWees?
The Seido Karate Pee Wee Program is designed especially for children ages 4, 5, and 6. It provides them not only with a structured introduction to the fundamental skills of karate, but to a number of skills and concepts that will support their overall development for years to come.
Cognitive Development
Children ages 4 thru 6 have an endless capacity to learn. Through repetition and games, young students will learn Japanese terms easily and quickly. You will see an improvement in your child’s overall memory development.
Motor Development and Coordination
Your child will build strength and coordination by participating in games, challenges, and tasks focused on the essential movement patterns at a pace perfect for early learners. In addition to learning the basics of karate, your child will also learn and reinforce many fundamental motor skills and concepts: hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping, right/left, and clockwise/counterclockwise.
Balance
Maintaining balance for extended periods of time is an essential skill in each child’s physical development. In every class, students will work on developing core muscle strength and maintaining balance.
Focus & Concentration
Learning to look, listen, and focus are important skills for everyone, especially young children who are preparing for school. In addition to focusing on the task at hand, each class will emphasize three important components of concentration – making eye contact, listening carefully to directions, and controlling the desire to fidget when people speak.
For Juniors & Youth
Why Seido Karate for Juniors and Youth?
Cayuga Lake Seido Karate offers classes for children of all levels of experience and ability. Specialized curriculum for Juniors (ages 7-9) and Youth (ages 10-14) allows them to progress steadily as they acquire the fundamental skills of balance, strength, and mental focus. Older children build upon these skills and take on more vigorous challenges appropriate to their level of progress.
Character Development
Seido Karate was founded on three main principles: respect, love and obedience. Children who study Seido learn, within each class, the values of honesty, commitment, trust, and perseverance, as well as the importance of treating others kindly. Each student is encouraged to be a better person today than they were yesterday.
Concentration and Self-Discipline
Students of Seido Karate learn to focus on the task at hand and to complete challenges, small or large. Special emphasis is placed on developing better control of the body, the breath, and the mind. Students learn the importance of following the rules of family, school and society.
Self-Defense and Confidence
Through disciplined study of traditional karate, children are taught to stand strong. We focus on reinforcing positive behaviors that can help students deal with the stresses of peer pressure or bullying to which they may be exposed.Students also learn strategies that help them become a positive influence on those around them.

"My training has been more rewarding than I ever could have imagined. I started with only curiosity and no experience. The classes are challenging yet flexible and supportive and always fun. I was welcomed into this wonderfully diverse group with open arms. I only wish I had started sooner!"

"After the encouragement of my kids and the Sensei's, I joined CLSK in my late forties. I learned that Seido is a Karate for everyone. I expected the physical conditioning and self defense, but what I continue to gain is so much more. Seido is a community, friendship, and spirit that has improved and enriched many aspects of my life."
